La mayoría de los discursos aquí recogidos pertenecen al género forense, pero algunos son de carácter político, como, por ejemplo (en su sentido más hondo) el Contra Leócrates de Licurgo, el Contra Demóstenes de Dinarco, y el fragmentario Sobre los doce años de Démades, mientras que el Epitafio de Hiperides es un excelente ejemplo de retórica epidíctica. Literariamente estos textos son importantes como muestras del desarrollo de los angeles prosa griega, pero culturalmente lo son, tanto o más que por su brillantez formal, por sus testimonios sobre los angeles vida política y cotidiana de l. a.
